Ballots for the 2020 Presidential Election were mailed out October 13th, and are expected to deliver to registered voters by October 20th, so stay on the look out! Ballots must be postmarked by November 2, 2020 to be valid for this election or put in a drop box by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. Early Voting will take place October 27-30, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Box Elder County Courthouse 01 S. Main St. Suite 10 Brigham City, Utah. Photo identification will be required. Register To Vote Or Request An Absentee Ballot Find A Dropbox Near You The Candy Bomber: On October 10th the “Candy Bomber” turned 100! Gail Halvorsen the amazing Candy Bomber was born in Tremonton City and graduated from Bear River High School. War doesn’t usually bring out sweet memories but Gail changed that for thousands of German children during the Berlin Airlift that followed World War Two. Col. Halvorsen (who was then a lieutenant) was in the first group of airmen sent to Frankfurt, Germany, when Russia blockaded West Berlin in 1948. The Soviets planned to starve the European city into submission by blockading all entrances into it, but the United States came to the aid of the Germans by flying in food, coal, medicine, and other basic supplies. “But these were different. These children had been through so much—their city had been practically destroyed; many of them had lost family members in the war. Yet not one asked for any gum or candy.” Gail explained. He reached into his pocket to see if he had any treats that he could leave with them and found only two sticks of gum. He passed them through the fence and watched as the children eagerly accepted his small gift. Without argument they divided the small pieces of gum into even smaller pieces, and when there was none left to divide, passed the gum wrappers around to smell. Gail Halvorsen had a for a mural painted for him right here in Tremonton in celebration of his 100th birthday! Happy Birthday Gail, thank you for having such a kind heart. The COVID-19 Transmission Index is a balanced approach intended to protect individuals, communities, and businesses. The goal of this model is for each county’s residents to work together towards lowering their county’s transmission index level. The overall goal is to be in the lowest level possible. There are three levels in the transmission index: high, moderate, and low. Each level has certain requirements for individuals and businesses to follow in order to reduce transmission of COVID-19. What Transmission Index is Box Elder County In: We are in the Moderate Transmission Level , meaning until 10/29 social gatherings of 10 or fewer are permitted. After 10/29 social gatherings of 25 or fewer are permitted. Any events that exceed 25+ are permitted if each individual wears a face mask.
